We’ve been talking to our friends Rustici over in the USA about an exciting development in the world of e-learning, which allows e-learning content to talk to e-learning players. (Rustici are, in our view, the world experts on the e-learning standard SCORM.)
Rustici have been commissioned to look at a future replacement for SCORM, which has the working title ‘Tin Can’.
We think that ‘Tin Can’ provides really exciting opportunities for our clients. It’s only a draft standard at the moment, but when it’s implemented it will allow learners to connect to learning anywhere, without necessarily needing to go through a corporate Learning Management System.
We think this means that Learning Management Systems in the future will become “activity recording systems” – where the activity can be far wider than a formal learning event. We’re seeing an ever-increasing blur between learning management, knowledge management and the work of the organisation. We’d encourage you to join the debate here or on the Tin Can website!
