e-Learning Design & Development
There are broadly seven phases to the design and development of e-learning packages. These are as follows:
- Requirements analysis – it is crucial that the learning outcomes of any learning and development initiative are outlined and e-learning is no exception. There needs to be a good understanding of what the development need is, who the learners are going to be and their level of current knowledge and the outcomes that are required after undertaking the e-learning programme.
- Instructional design - provides a framework for the creative process of design, and ensures the learners' needs are met through a starboard approach to content.
- Graphical design – this is the actual design elements to be included in the e-learning package.
- Development– this is the actual development of the e-learning package using an e-learning authoring tool or software package.
- Testing – this is the testing of the application in line that should include both ‘system testing’ and also ‘usability testing’.
- Implementation – this is the upload of the e-learning content onto an e-learning platform so that it is readily available to the target learner audience.
- Evaluation - in order to ensure that none of the learning objectives have been lost in the e-learning production process then it is important that the e-learning package is evaluated (along with the learners undertaking the development intervention).
We can either undertake the whole of this e-learning creation process for you or get involved with specific activities depending on your needs.
Broadly speaking there are a range of different approaches to the development of e-learning packages depending on your requirements.
Rapid e-Learning – we have chosen to partner with ‘Thesis’ which is a rapid e-learning authoring tool which is a cost effective way for organisations to produce their own e-learning content with minimal training. This is particularly beneficial where organisations have the basic e-learning content (e.g. Microsoft learning objects such as Word documents, Powerpoint presentations, graphics or video files) that they want to be made available to learners.
e-Learning Authoring Tools – there are a whole range of e-learning authoring tools that can be used to create dynamic / content rich e-learning content. These are packages that require specialist skills to be able to utilise. Due to the specialist nature of these tools we could look to include a holistic review of these tools, however we would be happy to advise you on appropriate tools following a discussion of your requirements.
