    The foundation of any effective appraisal or development review is that managers and reviewers have the knowledge and skills to give good feedback to staff.

    We have developed and provided a range of different workshop programmes that prepare managers, reviewers and staff with the knowledge and skills required to conduct or participate in an effective appraisal.

    We have included here a summary of a couple of our most popular workshops, however we always work with our clients to define a programme that matches the needs of managers, reviewers and staff within an organisation, to take account what training has already been conducted and the current competence level of staff within the organisation.

    Developing Effective Appraisal and Review Skills Workshop

    We have developed a one day workshop that can be delivered direct to a team of managers or reviewers in an organisation or can be tailored as a ‘train the trainer’ workshop to help your trainers better develop individuals within the organisation to give good feedback to staff. Within this workshop we will identify the following:

    • The competences of a great reviewer.
    • How to use different language styles and interpersonal skills to conduct an effective appraisal / development review.
    • How to prepare to conduct an appraisal / personal development review.
    • How to identify and manage the barriers to giving and receiving good feedback.
    • How to manage the appraisal / development review meeting.
    • How to assess performance and competence including what is good evidence and how it can be collected.
    • How to focus the review on the continuing cycle of learning, development and improvement.

    This workshop can be run before running a half day session on the e-KSF for reviewers who will be using the tool to record the KSF Development Review.

    Appraisee Awareness Training Workshops

    We have successfully run 2-3 hour programmes to raise awareness of appraisal and the KSF development review process with appraisees. These sessions ensure staff know what to expect from appraisals, how to record and review your personal development targets, and how to prepare for an appraisal meeting with their reviewer. The sessions can also be used to introduce the e-KSF online tool so that staff will leave the session knowing exactly how to sign on and get started. This course will help staff understand:

    • What the key development review and personal development planning processes are.
    • How to prepare to undertake your PDR.

    This course also helps staff understand the following processes on the e-KSF:

    • How to view the schedule of meetings associated with the PDR process.
    • How to record and sign off the Personal Development Review.
    • How to record and sign off objectives.
    • How to record and sign off your Personal Development Plan (PDP).
    • How to book directly on learning and development activities from your e-KSF PDP (where organisations are using AT-Learning).
